Marquise

Allegedly fashioned on the perfect mouth of The Marquise of Pompadour, the Marquise cut is an elongated brilliant cut diamond with 58 facets.

The Marquise diamond is cut into a “Navette” shape, which resembles the hull of a small boat. With its sides curving into two points, it is very good at creating the illusion of size, without giving up its elegance.

The Marquise diamond has one of the largest crown surface areas on a carat for carat basis and with it’s elongated shape can also make the finger of the wearer, longer and slimmer.

The Marquise diamond can suffer from what’s known as the “bow-tie” effect. This effect occurs if the depth of the diamond is not in harmony with its other proportions and shadows are created across the facets of the stone.
